Bayer Leverkusen made significant progress towards reaching the Europa League final by securing a 2-0 victory in Rome during the first match of their semi-final. The newly crowned champions of the Bundesliga are determined to maintain their unbeaten record throughout the entire season, across all competitions.

Bayer Leverkusen’s quest for a treble received a significant boost as they triumphed 2-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League semi-final against Roma, played away from home on Thursday.

The Bundesliga titleholders have now gone unbeaten for an impressive 47 matches. Florian Wirtz and Robert Andritch found the back of the net on either side of half-time, ensuring victory following a series of three consecutive draws.

Leverkusen will carry a 2-0 lead back home for the second leg of the semi-final in western Germany next week.

Coach Xabi Alonso’s team has clinched the Bundesliga title, a first in the club’s history, and will also face second-division Kaiserslautern as strong favorites in the German Cup final on May 25.

Following their victory in Rome on Thursday, the club is one step closer to a final in continental competition.

In the other semi-final match on Thursday, Marseille and Atalanta played to a 1-1 draw.

Gianluca Scamacca scored for Atalanta in the 11th minute, but Chancel Mbemba equalized for Marseille nine minutes later.

Both teams had opportunities to score more goals in the second half.

Next Thursday schedules the second legs, and Dublin hosts the final on May 22.

Leverkusen’s impressive performance in the first leg of the semi-final has put them in a strong position to advance to the final.
